Following the expansion of its cherry tomato farm, Sweet Lions is also investing in three crate tippers.

Tholen – Cherry tomato grower Sweet Lions from Grubbenvorst recently expanded its cherry tomato acreage by 5 hectares. The first plants were placed in the greenhouse on December 11. The machinery has also been expanded to handle the increased production. “We are eager to start the new season,” says Jordan van Leeuwen.

The new equipment includes three new crate tippers, supplied by Burg Machinefabriek. One new crate emptier is already in place in front of the new Aweta sorting machine, the second is next to an additional filling and packaging line. And the last tipper replaces the old one, which had been in use for twenty years and was due for replacement. It will be installed in February, just before the harvest.

The choice of Burg tippers was not a difficult one for Jordan. “We did inquire with other suppliers, but we work with regular suppliers as much as possible, and these tippers are simply reliable machines. I am also seeing them more and more at other growers’ operations.”

A new feature of the crate tippers is that they are fully electrically powered, so no unhygienic hydraulic systems are used in the machine. The dosing system carefully transfers the product from the crate to the conveyor belt. Thanks to automatic detection, the tippers are suitable for all crate sizes and can be fed from three sides.
